I have an ancestor (the same name as mine) John Walton whose burial was dated 22 Sept. 1835 age 50 years at St. Johns Chapel, Stanhope, according to the Durham Bishops transcripts. His abode was listed as Hassicks.
Would some one know as to where this place may be?
Many thanks.

I wonder if it was Haswicks??
I found this address with a Walton family in 1841 in the parish of Stanhope

Thank you Kay. This looks very promising and I will check it out. I have spent hours trying to find this place and it looks like you have found it in 1 hour.
Many thanks

I was lucky and searched for an address of Hassicks in 1841 and this came up
It's in the Park Qtr of the parish which should be in this area somewhere but I can't see it at the moment https://maps.nls.uk/view/102341578#zoom=5&lat=1855&lon=11090&layers=BT

This is a site showing the boundaries of the parish https://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/DUR/Stanhope

Thanks again Kay.
Do you think the cottages you show were of the early 1800's ?

The old map was surveyed in 1858 and the current cottages look to be on the same footrprint so I think they were the original ones there pre 1841
