Help please,
I'm searching for the parents of Victor Royce Lightowler born Wetherby 1911. I have a marriage to Kathleen Mary Peace in 1935 but short of buying a certificate I'm drawing a complete blank.

His middle name could be a clue to who his father was but no guarantees

Could be Carole. I've tried with the usual web sites but no joy so far.
I'm assuming that there could be a spelling mistake at some point.There are many ways of spelling 'Lightowler' sometimes they are picked up and sometimes not.

He died 1996 & death reg shows birthdate as 30.1.1911.  Is he on the 1911 census?

I can't find him in 1911, I've also tried Royce Lightowler.

There is a private tree which has his birth as Boston Spa.

1911 shows one Lightowler in the area but no child.

I think you may have to buy a copy of his birth cert.  That will at least give you his mothers name.  As he was illegitimate - unless he had a relationship or knew his biological father before he married - it’s unlikely the marriage cert will give you any info

You are probably right Carole. I'll report back and see if the descendent wants to go down that path.
I had a look on Family search and found an unmarried Elsie Lightowler living at Clifford (near York) this made me think that the father could be an unknown so the Lightowler link is passed down through a female.
