I know very little about my 2x great grandfather John Thomas Cordon so I was hoping to order a PDF of what I believe is his birth certificate but the reference I found on FreeBMD is not coming up on the GRO index.
I think he was born in the first quarter of 1847 at Mansfield, Nottinghamshire.
Vol. 15 Page 525.
I've looked at the original index on Ancestry and FreeBMD and the numbers look right but could they have been transcribed wrongly from the original birth certificate? Or could it be the that the certificate doesn't exist for some reason?
Should I just try and order with the reference number I have, (there's a small charge if they can't find it), or should I message them first perhaps?
I'm really hoping I can find his birth certificate because I have no idea who his parents were and I'm completely stumped at the moment!

Is this him in 1851?

Ancestry have him as 11 and FS as 4 - original image not clear

There is a facility on GRO to report problems with the index:
https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/indexes_report.asp
Select the "missing entry in the birth index" option.

Have you noticed that there is an arrow against his name on the original image of the index? It is the only name marked that way on the page, perhaps the reason for that is whatever is preventing him showing up on the GRO website.

Thank you so much for all your sterling work! I've been pondering over this for weeks.
John Corden named his daughter Millicent, (my great grandmother). I always wondered where that name came from!
I noticed the Baker family on a census record but I really wasn't sure if there was a connection or not but i think you have all confirmed that there is.
He died very young, aged 32 so there aren't that many records to search, although I know he was married in Essex,(he was in the Royal Artillary), so I could send for the marriage certificate, but I have learnt more about him today than in months of searching.
Thank you everyone!
And thank you Phillip, I will try what you suggested.

Well, I tried every different name combination I could think of when searching the records... other than "Dordon".
Thank you jonw65!

Thanks garstonite, I had no idea about Millicent or that she had remarried so that will be very interesting to look in to. Could be more distant cousins to find!
