Please could anyone help with the exact position of Hill Crest Villas , Bredfield Road Woodbridge Suffolk. I found the address in the 1939 Register but on the map it appears to be a field . Looks like it has been demolished or had its name changed since then .

Bredfield Road is in Melton, next parish to Woodbridge.
Bredfield Street is in the town.
Both of the above are built areas.
Also, the main road through a village in Suffolk is usually The Street.
So is the reference The Street, Bredfield, Woodbridge (using the nearest/postal town as we do today).

The "fields" on the 1939 map of Bredfield Road were actually orchards which were still there in the early 1960's when I was a child. In the early 1970's two housing estates were built off Bredfield Road - Orchard Close & Bury Hill.
On the 1939 register the enumerator is following the route out of Woodbridge towards the Bredfield Road/Woods Lane Melton crossroads. The houses you are looking for are still there on the right hand side of the road coming from Woodbridge. The previous entries are Bury Hill (House) which is still there and now surrounded by many houses, then New Inn which is also still there. Today, between New Inn & Hill Crest Villas is the entrance to Orchard Close.
You can see them as you "walk" along the road on Google Earth and just about make out the name plaque high up on the wall.
Hope this helps
Best wishes,
Kevin

Thank you so much for the help. My daughter in particular has been searching for the place her father was evacuated to . We have always wondered where a six year old from London ended up. Now we know.Brilliant.!
