Hi there
Margaret Dodds married Arthur Brown in Newcastle 1908 could someone please check for Margaret's parents where i have James Dodds and Mary Ann Dodds ...and i did a total no no and looked at another tree and they have Margaret as Margaret Ferguson Dodds and i have ended up confusing my self and going around in circles .
Margaret and Arthur were living in Portland St. Elswick on the 1911 census
James and Mary Ann were in Portland St. as well on the 1911 census i think i have the right parents just need a bit confirmation Tia

Have you checked her father’s occupation on her marriage or perhaps the witness names? They could be relatives.
There is a Margaret, slightly younger, with parents James and Mary but she is still at home in 1911.

Looking at the children’s births, the mother is Ferguson.

This would suggest:
Birth Mar qtr 1890 Morpeth vol 10b p383 DODDS Margaret Ferguson, mmn FERGUSON
BUT, along with a few other Northumberland birth registrations, there is also:
Birth Jun qtr 1890 Tynemouth vol 10b p181 DODDS Margaret, mmn CHAMBERS
which, given that Margaret's birthplace on the 1911 census is given as Newcastle, seems to be a good candidate.
I think, as you noted, the marriage certificate is the way forward, to get Margaret's father's name and occupation. Going on the principle: "be wary of online trees" it's best to be sure.

I thought the father was known as James :-\ perhaps not then.

Hi thank you for your replies i have Margaret's father as being James Dodds born Newcastle 1860,
i have him 0n the 1891,1901,1911 census and his occupation is a plasterer.
I know i shouldn't look at other trees but i cant help a sneaky peek ;)
As Mary Ann on those trees her maiden name is Wilson i will continue hunting heads a bit clearer with it today ..thank you
p.s Ferguson thank you how on earth got passed me thank you also just found James on the 1881 census states born Carlisle x

You really need the 1908 M/C to be sure who Margarets Father was and his Occp.
Margaret Ferguson DODDS
birth:31 December 1889
baptism: 15 January 1890
Parents JAMES and MARY ANN
They also had another Daug named the same bapt 21 March 1888 who must have died.
There are several other possible Margarets bapt 1888-1892 on F/S.
One has parents Edward/Isabella and another Joseph/Anne
