Title: John Wilson (1841-1917) and Annie Bryson (Orlands Mill, Carrickfergus)
Post by: allister1964 on Sunday 30 May 21 23:36 BST (UK)
John was a distant relative of mine. They had nine children:  John (b: 1871) ; William (b: 1872) ; Mary Anne (b: 1874) married David McCartney ;  Jane Moffett (b: 1876) married Robert McMurtry ;  Bryson (b: 1880) who may have married Jemima Baird in 1932 ;  Thomas (b: 1884) ;  James (b: 1887) ; Ida (b: 1890)  and  Robert Henry (b: 1892).

As this is all I know, I was hoping that there may be some living descendants of the above family, in fact I have been told, there was a John Wilson (b: c1934)  residing at Orlands Mill farm about 2015. If anyone can be of assistance, It would be much appreciated.

Do you know if the gentleman b.c1934 is deceased? He could possibly still be alive (we aren't allowed to post details of living, or possibly living, people). If still alive you will need to edit and remove his name.

Linking to the Wilsons in the 1901 census, for others-

1911 census says 9 children but only 4 living. If you are trying to trace descendants then finding deaths for the 5 deceased children should establish if they married and had family before they died.

I think Annie Bryson was the third child of Robert Bryson (c. 1799-6 Jun 1859) and Mary _ (c. 1799-22 Aug 1869), his second wife. The other children were Surgeon Major Allen Bryson (11 Dec 1832-6 Jun 1869) who died at sea on board the 'Indus' and who left his life-savings to the General Hospital Belfast (later the Royal Victoria Hospital) where there is a plaque in his honour but with a misspelling ('Allan') of his surname; Margaret Bryson (-1879); and Thomas Bryson.

By his first wife Robert had a son Samuel who moved to Canada and married Ann Hoy (1831-1989) a neighbour from home whom he met accidentally on a pier when she and her family arrived in Canada some years later.

Robert was the eldest child of James Bryson (c. 1770-20 Nov 1822) and Sarah Allen (c. 1781-12 Apr 1864), the other children being Margaret Bryson (c. 1805-18 Apr 1873) whose husband was Thomas Stratford Stephens (c. 1799-24 Jan 1848); and William Bryson (-1871) whose wife was Mary - (c. 1815-3 Oct 1903).

Sarah Allen was the daughter of Robert Allen (c. 1744-10 Oct 1830) and an unknown wife.

I met a John Wilson from the Beltoy Road quite a number of years ago and he indicated that we were related but I regret that I did not follow that up.

Thanks for the reply.

3 Oct 1903 is the date of death for Mary Bryson said to be on the Bryson gravestone in Kilroot graveyard. This is from Gravestone Inscriptions of co. Antrim, vol 2, page 49, from the Ulster Historical Foundation.

I think Annie Bryson was the third child of Robert Bryson (c. 1799-6 Jun 1859) and Mary _ (c. 1799-22 Aug 1869), his second wife.

Annie Bryson who married John Wilson was daughter of William Bryson of West Division:

https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1870/11382/8178994.pdf

His will (PRONI will calendar) refers to his daughter “Annie Wilson otherwise Bryson”.  So I guess Annie was niece of Robert Bryson (c1799-1859)?

Robert was the eldest child of James Bryson (c. 1770-20 Nov 1822) and Sarah Allen (c. 1781-12 Apr 1864), the other children being Margaret Bryson (c. 1805-18 Apr 1873) whose husband was Thomas Stratford Stephens (c. 1799-24 Jan 1848); and William Bryson (-1871) whose wife was Mary - (c. 1815-3 Oct 1903).

James Bryson died on 20th Nov 1832 going by his headstone (I have a photo), though this probate record says 20th Sep 1833 (unlikely to be correct):

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-C39M-B9Z4-1?i=227&cat=234514

Apart from the fact they’re all buried in the same or adjacent plots, do you have any other evidence to show Robert Bryson (c1799-1859) and William Bryson (c1803-1871) were children of James and Sarah?

Hello Catherine, How exactly are you descended from John and Annie? Your help would be much appreciated as I'm attempting to update my very large family tree.
