Hi there just looking for some help in regard my 4th great grandparents.
My 3rd great grandfather was Thomas Dorman born 1847. He was born in Newtownards Co. Down, married Mary Connery on 20/04/1867 in Newtownards and on that marriage certificate his father was named as Thomas Dorman. Mary died and he went on to marry her sister in law in Scotland, Eliza Jane Connery, however, we don’t have a certificate for this. When Thomas died in 1924 in Glasgow, Lanarkshire his father was named on his death certificate as John Dorman a hand loom weaver and mother Mary Dorman m.s. Irvine (assuming this is her maiden name).
We cannot find any marriage, birth or death certificates for either his mother or father under the name Thomas or John Dorman. Any idea? The name Alexander Dorman has come up a few times in valuations but we have no idea what his father's real name was or where he hailed from.
Any help is much appreciated.

The name seems to be spelled as both Dorman and Dornan. There is a Thomas Dorman in Griffiths in Newtownards with address noted as "Commons" with another on Regent Street. The marriage record is more likely to be correct given that the info would have been given by Thomas himself versus the death record which would have been completed by someone who may not have had the correct information.

There is also a marriage for Thomas Dorman and Elizabeth Connery in 1902 in Bridgeton in the records at ScotlandsPeople (paid site). There may be a duplicate entry with her married name as Roy.
Someone on Ros Davies' County Down site is researching the same family:

Yes, I have trawled through the Ros Davies site and have only found records about 3rd Great Grandfather Thomas Dorman and nothing in regard to his parents. Any record that comes up seems to be to do with 1847 Thomas and not 1820 Thomas, possibility he came from somewhere else and I'm looking in the wrong place. I can't find a marriage for a Mary Irvine and anyone named Dorman on Ancestry, Roots Ireland or Irish Genealogy so I'm really at a loss.
I believe there was a second son Alexander Dorman, not born until 1856 so nearly 10 years after Thomas and died in his early thirties in Newtownards.

There is a death for Margaret ‘Dorrian’ for child.
One account gives his age as 45 yrs.

Yes I had the information on Alexander and a marriage certificate for him but no birth or info on whether he and Thomas were brothers.

Yes I thought you had but I thought I would post to show they have different fathers’ names. :-\

If I have read this correctly, Church of Ireland records for Newtownards were lost - grey coloured.

Always remembering that the name Irvine, in the north, can be Irwin, Erwine, Erwin and any number of variations. You could lose yourself for years and never be found searching through this large set of families ;)
I would look for the nearest Irwin etc families and start searching through them for links. Also look on Griffiths
