The cap badge is not clear, but could be Royal Engineers WW1:

I was thinking he is from one of the mounted regiments, life guards, household cavalry, what with bandolier and breeches plus riding crop, although the latter could be an accessory for the photographer, if studio portrait.  To me the cap badge does not quite fit the outline of the RE badge.
