Title: Parents of William Lockyear of Devon, born 1784-1787
Post by: moonmullins on Wednesday 28 April 21 16:48 BST (UK)
Seeking the parents of the William Lockyear who m. Ann Martin at Tavistock, 03 Mar 1815. This William was living in Tavistock at the time of the 1841 Census, his age at the time suggests a birth 1784, and was born in Devonshire.  He is likely the "William Lockyear alias Schearling" who died in 1850 in Tavistock, age 66 (i.e. birth ca. 1784).

He could be the William Lockyar who was baptized 31 Jan 1787 at Tavistock, son of William and Mary. If the same individual he was 2-3 years old at the time of this baptism, certainly possible, otherwise this is a different William. I did not find an earlier baptism that would match this same individual.

That's mine.  I'm posting separately here as the question remains, hoping a new set of eyes might be able to break through this brick wall.

It is never a good idea to create more than one post on a topic,  If you think you have posted the query in the wrong place then the mods will move it if you ask them.  Duplicate posts mean we spend our time looking for information that you have already been given elsewhere.

Well, my experience has been that there are those who specialize in regions (Devon, London, Scotland), and others with expertise in topics - i.e., immigration, handwriting, or in this case, alias names. In each instance they tend to follow the chat room of their interest - not every chat room.  It's been hugely helpful to me over the years to cast a wide net, but only when necessary.  And if the information hasn't been provided, what's to lose?
