Title: FindMyPast New Pro Membership
Post by: Ellenmai on Thursday 15 April 21 10:32 BST (UK)
I have received an e-mail from FindMyPast informing me they have upgraded my membership from the Britain 12 months to the New pro Membership & as my subscription isn't due at this time, I take it it will be at no extra cost to me. Today I thought I would try it out for USA research only to find when I click on a result a page comes up asking me to upgrade me subscription & they recommend Pro  ???
Has anyone else had this problem?

I have had an email but its from Find My Past not Ancestry.

Is that what you meant?  I haven't actually tried it out yet but from your message I assume it has been upgraded in name only and not to give access at the current time until we pay the higher sub on renewal.

Sorry Pheno your right it should have been Find My Past  ::) I will amend my question. They have now sent me three e-mails asking the same thing " What did your recent rummage in our military records reveal". I think I will ask customer services what's going on.

I received the same email telling me that

Your Britain 12 month subscription has now become an access-all-areas Pro subscription.

Your new Pro membership will continue to provide everything you currently enjoy in your Britain 12 month subscription, along with;

Irish records and newspapers – the largest collection online
Extensive family records from USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and beyond
New Private Messaging – connect with other Findmypast members to chat about shared ancestry

However if I try to access anything other than British records I am invited to pay an additional subscription to upgrade to Pro membership.

How annoying JenB  >:( What are they playing at? I have sent an e-mail & will let you know what they have to say if & when I get a reply.

Yes, email received this morning. Eager to look at the Canadian records, I was disappointed to be asked to upgrade at appropriate cost. The email implies that we could access these records without upgrading.

I transferred to the Pro sub in March 2018 and it seems the same now - all access.

By the subscription amount in the account entry, it seems that it must have been a special offer then at £88.12 compared with £101 for the previous year (for Brit only)  but is higher now!

I received a similar email this morning and in the light of what's being said here I've just being trying a few searches to see what happens. Nothing has changed for me and I'm able to view everything as before.

Edit : I expect my subscription to increase when the time comes , with a possible further payment for the 1921 census.

I got same email earlier and also asked them to explain why, despite them saying my account has been automatically upgraded, I can't access today any more than I could yesterday

Pro is now showing as £159.99 per annum, about 60% more than I paid on my last sub renewal for Britain 12 month sub. Since I so rarely need anything outside Britain, not worth paying the extra for. I don't think I'll bother to renew when it comes due in September, if Pro is the only alternative.
Probably a way to rake in more money ahead of 1921 census being available

Mine is still £135

i've had the email as well but have only been putting any hints on which i know was correct so not searching in those other categories. I may well decide to change my membership.

I can now view world records and according to 'My Account' I now have Pro subscription.   It has changed to this during this morning as not available earlier

I can now view the world records too  ;D Thanks everyone for your helpful impute. The jury is out for me whether I renew my subscription, it will all depend on the price at the time. I think they should offer all of us who have been subscribing for years a discount for the inconvenience, as quite a lot of people will have to pay for world records they don't want  :(

Same here...

I've had a subscription to FindMyPast for a good many years which was a 12 month Britain Subs & cost £119.99 (but had 15% loyalty discount on renewal) so cost only £101.96. It renewed OK at end of January this year. Today had an email from FindMyPast telling me that they are discontinuing the Britain Subs and I am now on an access all areas PRO subscription so I can enjoy all what I have now plus extra USA/Canada, Australia/NewZealand & other global records, however this is up to my renewal next Jan when they will tell me changes in renewal cost.

Now I see that PRO subs costs £159.99 and indeed gives me the full works & if similarly loyalty discounts would only cost £135.99. Also I have found that the lower spec PLUS subscription costs £119.99, same as what I'm paying now, but it does not include newspapers, which I use a great deal. So in essence if I want to pay the same as I do now then I lose access to BNA or I have to pay more to get BNA & also get worldwide data that I'm not really interested in.

I assume I can downgrade from PRO to PLUS on renewal and then access newspapers via BNA

John ~

I've had the Pro sub since 2018 (see earlier post #6) and I get a 15% loyalty discount which reduces the annual sub to £135. I have access to all, including newspapers.

They're not as good a coverage of USA as Newspapers.com though.

Nothing at all has come up on my searches this afternoon regarding Newspapers in the USA  :'(

I assume I can downgrade from PRO to PLUS on renewal and then access newspapers via BNA

But a 12 month FindMyPast Plus subscription costs £120 (£102 with 15% discount) and a 12 month subscription to BNA costs £80, so you'd end up paying more than a 12 month Pro subscription. You could take out the occasional 1 month sub to BNA instead, to reduce costs, but that doesn't sound like fun.

I've had a 12 Month WORLD Subscription for years, but also had an email today: "your World 12 month subscription has now become an access-all-areas Pro subscription".

Sounds like they're streamlining everything into a single subscription type.

Had this following response from Find My Past after I complained about their change of subscriptions......

"We are discontinuing our Britain subscription and we are moving customers with this option onto our pro subscription

Based on current pricing, as a special thank you for being a loyal subscriber, we’re giving you 25% off the first renewal of your new 12-month Pro subscription. That means when your subscription next renews on 1st February 2022 date it will cost £119.99.

After that, your subsequent renewals will be billed including the standard 15% loyalty discount at a price of £135.99.

You would also be able to take the plus subscription which with your 15% discount - at our current prices - is £101.99

To get this you would need to cancel your automatic renewal prior to renewal, and then simply make a new purchase once your subscription comes to an end"

Thanks John for sharing that info with us all. Just one thing I don't quite understand, if you cancelled your automatic renewal & then made a new purchase as they suggest wouldn't you lose the 15% discount?
