Title: Marriage lookup for Thomas TONKIN and Ann DAVIES
Post by: fred21 on Wednesday 14 April 21 11:07 BST (UK)
Hi
can someone please do a marriage lookup for Thomas Tonkin and Ann Davies who were married in St in Penwith in 1752.

I am trying to confirm who Ann's parents were and am hoping her father is listed.

many thanks

The entry on the Cornwall OPC site only gives the names of bride and groom, and date and place.
I suspect that is all that is shown on the original register record.

Ann DAVIES
Thomas TONKIN   Marriage   30 Apr 1752   Cornwall   St Just-in-Penwith : St Just : Parish Register

There are 6 Davies baptisms there but the records note that they are badly faded, hence no first names but might be worth a look?

thanks :)

I looked at the Cornwall OPC database - they don't seem to include parents names on the marriages - or not on any of the ones for me.

maybe they weren't recorded on the church records ?

I"ll put her on hold for now

Doesn't help you at all, but I did a quick look in newspapers to see if I could find anything for your man. I love the entry after the death notice for this Thomas TONKIN. (Can't attach an image here, so here's  a transcription.)

" Dead ... Thomas Tonkin of Polgar in Cornwal, [sic]
Esq., universally lamented by his Aquaintance. Upwards
of 40 Cows belonging to one at Tottenham Court, uni-
versally lamented by all their Aquaintance.
Mr. Hill,
an Upholder, wealthy.
N.B. If great Men and Cattle die so fast, we shall
scarce have room to bury them in our Paper."

Names & occupations for fathers are recorded from the start of civil registration - 1 July 1837 - and then should be on transcriptions, like this one
