I am looking for the marriage of my great uncle, Henry Norman "Harry" Hamilton, and his wife Anna ___. Hopefully to learn her maiden name, parents, etc.
Most likely they were married in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, between 1907 and 1910. Definitely between 1906 and 1918, and if not in Pittsburgh, then likely in Cleveland, Ohio.
They are not Harry W Hamilton and Anna Holicky who married 26 November 1914 in Cuyahoga County, Ohio.
They are not Harry Leroy Hamilton b 31 May 1885, who registered for the WWI draft in Pittsburgh with a wife named Anna.
---------
Details:
In the 1908 Pittsburgh Directory, Henry was living in his mother's home at 4932 Kincaid, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In 1910 she was still on Kincaid, but Henry, in the 1910 Directory, is nearby at 412 North Mathilda. I haven't found Henry in the 1910 census. He is not at 412 Mathilda, nor at 207 Shetland, where he was in the 1912 Directory.
Henry was single when he arrived in Baltimore on 17 September 1906, an American citizen, whose last residence and destination was Pittsburgh. And the first time I actually have Henry and Anna together on a record is September 12, 1918, at 809 Parkwood, Cleveland, Ohio, when Harry registered for the WWI Draft.
Anna ___ 's death record, with Harry as informant, said she was born 5 June 1886 in Germany. The 1920 Census said she was born in Bosnia/Austria, and that her parents were born there also. She died 8 Feb 1929 at 1374 E 141st, East Cleveland, and is buried in Acadia Memorial Park.
Henry "Harry" Hamilton was born 11 March 1882 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, son of Joseph Hamilton and Elizabeth Eckstine Kiel. He was raised in Pittsburgh, lived in Cleveland, and died in Medina, Ohio, 21 April 1951. He was cremated, but findagrave says he is buried with his wife.
Thank you,
Ed H.

Anna's death notice doesn't mention her maiden name, nor does it mention any siblings she might have had.

Has them both listed in their cemetery records.
Do you have Henry's tragic death notice?

They must have buried his ashes there then.
Do you have Henry's tragic death notice?
You mean the one that no one ever told me about growing up and may have helped me to understand why I felt the way I did so often?
Yes.

Anna's death notice doesn't mention her maiden name, nor does it mention any siblings she might have had.
Could you post that or pm it to me please? It's not in the Cleveland Public Library News and Necrology file. Where did you find it, in a Pittsburgh paper?
I guess Harry honestly didn't know much about her family. I thought the lack of information on her death record was from grief at the time.

American marriages are normally registered by the County. if most likely they were married in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania a record of the marriage should be in Allegheny County archives.

Thanks. That looks like the next stop. It's only $4 for a search.

- Anna's probate records, including her will in which she leaves everything to her husband.
She owned a house and lot in East Cleveland, and an empty lot in Mentor, Lake Co, Ohio
Towards the end it mentioned she had no children, no siblings.
Might be worth tracing the land records - perhaps she inherited the property, hence why it was in her name and not joint between them.

Thank you very much. I will look at the land records. And this widens the search for the marriage also. If she had land in Cleveland and in Lake Co. then she was more likely raised there than in Pittsburgh.

The house and lot in East Cleveland was sold to Anna in June 1923 by William and Ella Parke. They had a number of transactions on the Cuyahoga Co. records. He was born 1869 in Ireland. Ella was born 1866 in Canada and her maiden name seems to be Snyder, so neither are related to Anna or Henry.
Anna sold the property to Henry in March 1927, then he sold it back to her in Feb 1928. She wrote her will in June 1928 leaving it to Henry.
Anna had also owned their previous home on Everton Ave, buying it from C T Austin in 1920. He had a number of transactions on the records also and had bought that property the same day from someone else.
I have the approximate location of the empty lot in Mentor, Ohio, sublot 698 in the Salida subdivision. Sublot 690 is 5615 Anaconda Ave, Mentor-on-the-Lake, OH.
But the online Lake County records only go back to about 1960, so I couldn't trace Anna's ownership of that property.

I've requested a search for the marriage record of Henry N Hamilton and Anna ___ in Allegheny Co, Pennsylvania.

I've requested a search for the marriage record of Henry N Hamilton and Anna ___ in Allegheny Co, Pennsylvania.
They responded pretty fast:
"The Allegheny County Department of Court Records has not found any marriage records related to your request."
I don't think I will try any other counties. They could have gone anywhere to marry.

I'm now trying to rule in or out the following family as being Anna __'s birth family:
Edited: this is not her. See next post.
1900 Census, McKeesport, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania

renting at 37 Penn Street
Andy Morris, October 1859, 41, born in Austria, laborer, mill, arrived 1891

The month, year, and place for this Annie's birth match what I know about Henry Hamilton's wife.
Also, a cousin sent me a picture of Henry and Anna with a young man. The information that came with the picture said his name was Morris. I took it to be his given name, but who knows ...
-----
The father, Andrew, is not the Andrew Morros (b abt 1864, Austria) who died 1 Feb 1908 in Dixmont (PA) Insane Asylum. That man was from Manifold, Washington County, according to his death record.
-
The Annie in that family is not the Anna __ I am looking for who married Henry Norman Hamilton.
Their family name was Mross. The Annie in that family married Andrew Macko about 1917 (before he registered for the draft) and lived her whole life in McKeesport, Pa, dying 10 July 1945.
