Hi,
I'm looking for information regarding Alvin Lesley Williams born 29 August 1928, died 19 April 1971. Married Irene Green in 1966, Gloucester.
Kind regards Dennis Booth

There is a 'small tree' on Ancestry for Alvin Lesley Williams.

Gloucestershire BMD - has the marriage in 1966 at Gloucester St. James
----
England and Wales, Civil Registration Death Index : April 1971 - gives his birth year as 1931
: birth: 29 August 1931 (not 1928)

I fear a tragic story here as both Alvin and daughter died the same day!!

Annette
Birmingham Daily Post 20 April 1971
They were found dead at their home, his wife & 3 other children were alive and well.
Another report says foul play was ruled out

If Idwal really wishes to know the cause of death, then obtaining the death certificate is the only way.
Deaths Jun 1971
WILLIAMS Alvin 29Au1931 Gloucester C 7b 1115
I think this is the daughter as newspaper stated she was four years old and the page number is the same as her father's.
Deaths Jun 1971
WILLIAMS Marion Elaine 7Ja1967 Gloucester C 7b 1115

Perhaps next time that Idwal looks at this post they can give us some feedback as to whether we have answered their query or they are still after more information. I see that they were online earlier today :)

Thank you all for the information regarding Alvin Lesley Williams, I do have a copy of his marriage certificate. What I am looking for is his place of birth, any help with this would be most appreciated. Regards Dennis.
-
Discrepancy with Alvin Lesley Williams d.o.b. his death certificate is showing he was born in 1931, however his marriage certificate for 1966 gives his age as 38, therefore giving his birth year as 1928. Which one is correct?
-
Age on death certificates generally depends on the knowledge of the informant. ADDED _ He would have given the information for his marriage certificate
As you have a copy of the marriage certificate could you please give the details for his father, also who were the witnesses
-
Father, Michael Williams (deceased) witness’ Berlin Woodhouse, Harry Gordon.
-
I note that you have his second name as Lesley which is the female version of Leslie. Which is the correct spelling?
Where would the family have been living in 1939?
-
Did the marriage certificate give an 'abode' for the bride & groom
-
Berlin Woodhouse (one of the witnesses)
There is a Public Members' Tree on Ancestry for
Berlin Segismond WOODHOUSE, birth 28 February 1913 - death: 1985 Gloucesteshire England.
His father: Elijah WOODHOUSE : died in Jamaica 30 April 1949
(there is a copy of Elijah's marriage certificate - Point Hill St. Catherine, Jamaica - 21 November 1909)

Looking again at Public Members Tree on Ancestry
Irene GREEN wife of Alvin WILLIAMS was born in Trelawny, Jamaica (died in Birmingham)
? is this where Alvin was born as one of his witness was also born in Jamaica
? what was Alvin's occupation
? Ancestry, Uk and Ireland, Incoming Passenger List
without quoting all details - arrived: 7 December 1955, Alvin Williams aged 1929 - occupation, Carpenter - quoting an address in Wood Heath, Birmingham.
-
I was beginning to wonder if he had been born abroad. There didn't seem to be any likely birth in the UK.
Added: Could you clarify the age on arrival? You have 1929 or was that meant to be his birth year.

Marriage certificate for Alvin Lesley Williams
-
Hmm interesting looking at his signature on the certificate. It looks like we have AILVn and I wonder if the vicar put in his surname? It seems to be the same handwriting as in the main body of the certificate.
His age is not completely clear, it looks like 31 with a thicker stroke for the one. However I am not looking at the original so can't be absolutely certain.
If it is 38 then born in 1928, 31 born in 1935.
Am I right in thinking that they only had the one child who died? Or were there others born elsewhere?
-
Only one child died, age of Alvin is definitely 38 on the certificate, he also may have suffered with dyslexia, which would account for his signature on the marriage certificate, and I agree that his surname was finished by the vicar.
-
I wonder who supplied the birth year for his death certificate? His marriage certificate would suggest that he was born in 1928, a discrepancy of three years from the death certificate.
Family Search do have birth records for Jamaica and I had a look but couldn't see one with a suitable birth date.
There were quite a few Alvins, none that were Alvin Lesley. Is it likely that his parents married in Jamaica?
-
