Dear Restorers, Here’s another faded photo that would benefit from your expert help, to bring back some of the missing detail. No colour required, please.
The couple are my great grandparents (from the German/Danish branch) - Albert and Catherine with 1st child Ann (born 1881), who is riding their pet woolly marsupial bear. It’s a treasured photo, being the only image we have of Albert – it seems my male ancestors were all camera shy.
Thanking you in advance for your interest.
[Historic note: The “woolly marsupial bear” was a favoured family companion in outback Australia in the mid-late1800s, but was generally superseded by the more aggressive “drop-bear” in the early 20th century.]

They do look more like a loving family that way, Tomkin. They don't look at ease in the formal photograph.

My goodness! What a lot of activity to wake to this morning.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to everyone who has worked to give me so many splendid new versions of my faded old photo.
Special thanks to: Ian N, Ibague, Goldie61, McGroger, Tomkin, Hoobaloo, Gadget, Japeflakes, and Trishanne. Brilliant work everyone; I am going to spend most of the day admiring them all now.
Gadget, I don’t think I have seen an albumen- type tint before. The interesting toning works well with this photo. Yes I agree the photo wasn’t centred well. The photographer was “tipsy” on the day.
Tomkin, your re-arrangement / tighter grouping gives a nice close up to the faces. They were very young parents!
I am glad you have had some fun with that ridiculous woolly photographer’s prop. You can only imagine how many jokes have been made about that great fluffy lump over the years!
