Sandra
-

Any other siblings in the USA ? Was he or had he been married. Parents names ?

There's a possible passenger list :

Richard Thomas 20 both described as labourers
dep 28 Jan1891 Liverpool to New York on Teutonic
In addition there's a marriage for Richard Thomas to Minnie Cornell 11 Aug 1911 Monroe , NY
parents Owen Thomas and Sarah Hughes.
The above fits with Owen Thomas , stonemason , who married Sarah Hughes 5 Jan 1861 Holyhead.
Is this your family ?

Thanks Sandra. Wish the snowdrops were in my garden , but they are in an old, sunken lane on one of our regular walks. We can't seem to grow them. ;D
-
We never had any luck with those little snowdrop bulbs but bought some in the green and they just flourished after that which was probably lucky. :)

Owen and Richard Thomas might have been somewhere else besides Rochester before 1907. I looked for Richard in the Rochester city directories working backward from his known address in 1915.
This is the earliest entry I am sure of:
1911
Richard Thomas, pictures and frames at 48 James, lives there also
These might be him, based on the occupation.
1907
? Richard Thomas, stonecutter at 54 Plymouth, boards 26 Elm
1909
? Richard Thomas, stonecutter, boards 14 Eckhardt Place
Come to think of it, I don't remember seeing a Richard Thomas, stonecutter, after 1911, but I'd have to go back through them to be sure. I think it would have got my attention since his father was a stone mason.
I didn't see Richard in 1904, 1905, or 1906. I didn't look any earlier than that.
In all those years, the only Owen Thomas in Rochester was an insurance salesman with his own company. I ruled him out.
-
P.S. he is not the Richard E Thomas in Rochester at the same time. For one thing, that man was married in 1910 (but also to a "Minnie"). And they are in the directories together many years.

He had been working in boise Idaho as stonemason he had family there a sister who he stayed with

I have nothing on richard sarah tonkin and the family are buried in boise this part of the family I have its sarahs brother Im trying to find about owen thomas my great great grandfather
-
We know who you are trying to find but sometimes we have to explore other family avenues and the fact he had a sister living in the USA, may have been significant. Its ok, we've have managed to find out that info.
Owen Thomas is quite a common name, there were a lot of them so it makes the task more difficult.
Knowing his parents were Owen Thomas and Ann Griffiths may help, not sure yet. It depends who gives information relating to his death.
Sandra
-
when sarah first came over to usa she stayed with her sister who had a boardhouse in new york I dont no her name but she met her future husband John and married there before moving to boise I have more information about her stay in new york

So there was another sister in the USA - we need to discover who she was. :)
