I'm trying to trace maps/pictures of barracks that my Great Grandfather, Sgt Frederick Charles Llewellyn stayed or lived in. So far I've found
Watton Barracks, (1881-?)
Curragh Camp (1886)
Crinkle Barracks (1887)
The Census for 1891 has him and his family living in the
Civil Parish : Lower Pool
Administrative County : Montgomery
Municipal Burrough : Welshpool
Ecclesiastical Parish District : St Mary's Welshpool
Address : Armoury Sq
I can't find anything relating to the address/area or any barracks....only Welshpool as a town.
He is also listed in the baptism records as a Colour Sgt in the 4th battalion SWB when he has always been recorded as being in the 1st.
A twofold question!
Any ideas on where to look or any info will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

It says the record is missing and unavailable? But thanks for the tip

I see that the address was Armoury Square. Could it be close to 'Armory' on this map

The Barracks in Brecon are in The Watton , home of the 24th Regt then just back from the Zulu Wars
The Currragh Barracks are in Ireland now home of the famous Race Course
Crinkle Barracks are also in Ireland

That's interesting ALAMO2008. I don't know if he joined in 1881 or before that time. How can one find out about if they actually took part in campaigns? Ive only been able to trace his movements from census records and his children's baptism certificates.

I don't know if you have this Marriage Certificate getting married in June Quarter 1883
Brecknock Vol 11b page 143 at St John's which is Brecon Cathedral to Emily J Games
They had 5 Children 1 died
Elizabeth Norah Llewellyn March 1884 Brecknock Vol 11b page 89 Mother's Maiden Name = Games
Beatrice Emily Llewellyn March 1886 Brecknock Vol 11b page 92 Mother's Maiden Name = Games
Possibly Stillborn as Death Registered March 1886 Brecknock Vol 11b page 79 aged 0
Valentine C Llewellyn Born 14 February 1887 in Ireland (Birr)
George Edward Llewellyn December 1888 Forden Vol 11b page 189 Mother's Maiden Name = Games
Florence Primrose Llewellyn June 1891 Forden Vol 11b page 202 Mother's Maiden Name = Games
From Marriage Certificate he achieved Full Corporal by 10 April 1883 aged 23 assume he joined when 18 in 1878
He was born along the Marches of Herefordshire and Birth Registered as Frederick Charles
by his Parents at Ross December Quarter 1860 Vol 6a page 382 Mother's Maiden Name = George
He was one of 7 I think yet always known as just Charles
Arthur William Llewellyn being the 1st in March 1857 and Hannah Llewellyn in December 1869 the last
His Father George Daniel Llewellyn appears to have been also in the Army as was his Mother Eliza Games from Talgarth Brecon was a Boot Binder
If Fred joined the 24th Foot Warwickshire Regt in 1878 he may well have fought the Zulus before returning to Brecon to get married.

No I don't have his 7 page service record ALAMO2008. Where do I find that? That would be great. I'm doing this research for my Mum, who lived together with Sgt FC Llewellyn's wife after he died,
-
How do you look up the South Wales Borderers on Ancestry ALAMO2008? I thought that was for individuals only?
-
If you are Nellirena on Ancestry I have messaged you on there.

Just seen it!
