I'm having some difficulty finding any further information about my partner's grandfather.
I do know he was born 1922 in Peterhead, Aberdeenshire (I do have full DOB). He went on to study medicine at University of Aberdeen, graduating 1946, and married my partner's grandmother in 1955 in Lancashire, then remaining in England.
I am specifically trying to find a possible 1939 census record for him (which may be too difficult due to the popularity of his name), but am having no luck finding these records.
Can anyone better versed in Scottish ancestry help at all? Or does anyone have any other search ideas for gaining information? I have read that Uni of Aberdeen keep various yearbooks/attendance records open book, but we live in England, so even outside of Covid-19, it's not realistic for us to visit.
Thank you in advance! :)

I am sure if you put his full date of birth in 1939 you would be able to pick out which person may be yours, there may be a few to pick from, also if you know who his parents were that would be a good help

Presumably he was in Scotland in 1939 if he moved to England between 1946 - 1955?
See here about the 1939 Scottish National Identity Register

The 1939 National Register (N.B. NOT a census! ;D) was continually updated by the NHS until the early 1990's.
Of course, he may be redacted if it was thought he was still alive?

If you have the marriage certificate - there is only 1 1955 Lancashire marriage with groom of that name - you can obtain his father's name and occupation.

The Aberdeen Press and Journal in 29 March 1946 gives the address of Alexander Stewart on graduation as 117 Queen Street, Peterhead.
The Valuation Rolls for 1935 give the name John Henderson Stewart at that address. Newspaper archive from 1908 has the appointment of John Henderson Stewart as science master at Peterhead Academy.
The newspaper archive also in 1945 has this death notice " At 117 Queen Street , Peterhead 13th February 1945, Margaret Eadie Gordon, beloved wife of John H Stewart, MA BSc, late Peterhead Academy".
An obituary for the above states she had 2 sons and a daughter.
As well as the newspaper archive I would suggest searching for John Henderson Stewart in the Aberdeenshire Electoral Rolls which are available on Ancestry.

Marriage of Margaret E Gordon and John Henderson Stewart in Blythswood, Glasgow in 1912. She was 51 when she died and, therefore, may well be Alexander's mother. The marriage and death certs. from SP will help you to find her parent's names as well as those of John Henderson Stewart.
