Hi,
Haven't found them in the 1871 and 1881 census yet but I found their marriage record and thought it might help you if you want to trace Ellen's line:
24 Feb 1850
West Hackney, Hackney
William Ford, full age, Commercial Clerk, son of William Ford, Commercial Clerk
Ellen Edmed, minor (she was 20), daughter of Thomas Edmed, Farmer
They both signed their names. The witnesses were William & Harriet Scrivener.

Some family researchers show father William's death as being on 25 Jan 1871 at 29 Great Hermitage St. Wapping, St.George in the East. There is a corresponding death on the GRO for a William Ford, aged 50 - St. Geo. East - 1c/368.
There are possible entries for deaths for an Ellen Ford in that 1860s decade. With age on the indexes not showing before 1866, hard to say if she could be one of them. There is this one for example in the 2nd Qrt 1865.
Ellen Ford - St Geo East - 1C/318
Between 1866-71, nothing really jumping out on deaths for her that I can see.

the age given on the GRO index for that 1865 death reg is 35 so a good match for age on the census entries.

Bad me...only checked FreeBMD for her death ::) Thanks Osprey for confirming.

Thank you Monica, Queenie and Pauline
All very helpful.
I also tried to locate the marriage but did not see that one - a couple of others that led me nowhere.
I had also seen that death for William Ford in 1871 but for some reason (which I should have written down somewhere) i decided it was not appropriate. I will have another look
Thanks for your efforts .
