My 4xGGrandfather moved from Ireland to Anglesey around 1840. I can't be sure he was born in Trim but a couple of his children state this as place of birth. Their mother was called Mary, I have no surname. Has anyone got any connections to this family please? Catherine Jane Burnell 1836 and Ann Maria Burnell 1838 are two of the children who state place of birth as Trim in UK census. Thanks for reading.

Hi Lesley, its useful showing your name because one of my searches on GenesReunited showed repeatedly a ‘Les’ treeholder Surely too much of a coincidence? I think it must be you. I ended up with this list

it made me wonder had an earlier Jonathan Burnell come to ireland and become known as John. then I checked Burnell as a last name in the Oxford Names companion 1998 no explanation! just referred to BROWN where it suggested Brown was given as an anglicization of a Jewish name Burnel and here was I seeking information on a John Brown Burnell ?

I checked the irish tithes for the spelling Byrnell without success for all ireland.
do you know of Margarets tree it seems possible she has your Catherine but 1835 not 1836
and Ann 1837 not 1838, I also thought Gavins tree worth investigating
I speculated could jonathan b 1800 had joined the army for say 7 years and was sent to ireland and married there.
before I leave the scene the I made a little draft tree of the entries in each census
1841 Census has at Bryn Gwyn Holywood I make up a tree presumably all one family relationship not recorded

Thank you so much for this information. I haven't been on GenesReunited for many years so will definitely revisit. I think your idea of doing a quick tree of other Burnells is worth me pursuing too. It's possible John may have only been in Ireland for a short while and I hadn't thought of that option before. Interesting that Brown and Burnell are effectively the same name! I think I only have one record that uses both so this may be a red herring. Cheers, Lesley.
