Hi,
Just trying to decipher this section of the 1841 census. I believe my 3rd great grandfather Hilton Walmsley is listed on this census. On his marriage certificate in 1854 it states his father is a James Walmsley. On his parish birth record it only lists his mother Charlotte Roscoe as a spinster. I am yet to find a James Walmsley anywhere. However on this census I believe the head of the household is John Walmsley if I am reading it correctly? Also just wondering who the other people are on the census. I wish on this census it listed the relationships, but never mind. Any help deciphering the writing would be appreciated. I think I have attached it to this post! First time trying to do so. I have put a box around the section I am looking at. Also some help with the occupation and location if possible.
Thank you.

I would say previous Head of household is John Whalley iron turner.
HO107; Piece: 553; Book: 3; Folio: 37; Page: 18 West Derby
Hilton is a separate household.

Yes John Whalley I can see that now! Very interesting because Hilton ended up being an Iron Turner as well. He was only 15 when this census was done so perhaps he was an apprentice or a lodger maybe for this John Whalley.

He is in a separate 'household' to John Whalley, note the / between the Walley family and Hilton. It is very likely he was working with John Whalley learning the trade

It is Parliament Street, Lancaster. Some entries refer to 'Back' above the street name I wonder if the Par.. above is something on those lines

Parl' S. was written originally as an abbreviation and then in different handwriting Parliament Street has been written in full underneath.

I wonder if the occupation might be Iron Founder?
The first letter of the second word doesn't look like the 'T' in Thos, though there are a few F.S.'s on nearby pages and it doesn't look like the 'F' either.
However, the last few letters look to me like '-under', so I can't think what else it could be.

Yes does look more like Founder.

Charlotte also bapt (sorry if you have this)
PETER 10 Oct 1813
JOHN 17 Mar 1816
Interestingly if I have the right John he married 24 Feb 1839 Manchester and names his Father as James Roscow a engraver.

Busy lady!! Maybe Hilton's name is a nod to the father?
