Title: Decipher name
Post by: kristof on Sunday 07 March 21 21:59 GMT (UK)
Hi, this should be an easy one but it's got me stumped, I can't work out the surname. I can see clearly 'Annette' and the surname begins with 'B' but that's about as far as I can go with it.

It looks like "ll" at the end but that's as much as I can offer  :-\

Was she a relative of some kind so you can trace the actual name some other way?

It looks something like Becaroll?....the the second to last word on the second line appears to begin with a "d" which is also in the surname.

Compare' Best Wishes'  gives Annettes surname starts with B  :)

I will find time later today to look at sample offered via my desktop screen.

I can't provide much in the way of background information and don't know if the name is Gaelic or not. But, what I can say is that they were in Queensland in the early 1990's and that's as far as I have got with trying to figure out who they are. I'm glad to see that it's not just me who is stumped by the name.

I attach a snip

And I wonder if there's perhaps a bigger sample of Annette's writing ... perhaps more of that document to help with decipher.

I think the sample we have reads :

… and be a different issue, they
...would like to do so.
Best wishes,
Annette  Becadh.

Can I also ask if our OP meant to date this as 1990s or as 1890s...  :)

https://www.data.qld.gov.au/dataset/assisted-immigration-1848-to-1912/resource/d62c9618-18df-4a2a-8cf0-d14da3d6db0f

that should be a live link to immigration database for Queensland 1848-1912 with those with surname commencing with B.

Ada BEACH is likely the first listing for surname Be………………………………….  She is at line 5175.

So if Annette or her ancestors arrived in Queensland before 1912, perhaps the surname is listed in that database.

(I thought I had already posted similar, but it must have gone to cyberspace, I cannot find it....)
