Post by: LadyDee on Sunday 07 March 21 14:44 GMT (UK)
Hello new to RootsChat.

How do I go about searching burial records for two children born to my 2x great grandparents that died in between census records. One born/died between 1878 & 1880 the other born/died 1884/1888 both in Barnsley, Yorkshire ? Thank you

Kind regards
LadyDee

Welcome to Rootschat,

Try the Dearne Memorial Group website which covers a number of cemeteries in the area

https://www.cemeteries.org.uk/

There is a charge for accessing the details of their records

Hope this helps.

Thank you for your enquiry but I don’t have the names of the children. It was noticed on the 1911 census of my 2x great grandmother that 8 children had been born alive to the marriage years earlier but only 5 were still alive. We know one daughter died shortly after having a baby herself leaving two children we were not aware of. I wondered if it were possible to trace their deaths using only the parents names, they were Catholic  so feel sure the deaths would be registered somewhere in Barnsley.

Do you know the maiden name of the mother?  If you do you can search the GRO records using the family surname and the mother's maiden name. If you enter Barnsley in the Registration box that will narrow it down for you.

Yes it was Egan although I have found her name under different spellings Agan, Hagen, Eagan......
They would have been born and died roughly between 1878 & 1880,   1884 & 1890 Possibly 1892 & 1896 it’s rather a puzzle!
Thank you Dee

I’ll look into the Katie Kelly birth although Maria would have been in her late 40’s 🤔 thank you for helping me you’re very kind. I think a possibility between 1884 & 1888 would be a good possibility.

Did I mention Elizabeth Kelly in 1883?

 Name:      Mother's Maiden Surname:
KELLY, ELIZABETH        EGAN
GRO Reference: 1883  S Quarter in MANCHESTER  Volume 08D  Page 277

   KELLY, MARGARET        EGAN

   KELLY, MARY  VIOLET      EGAN
GRO Reference: 1890  M Quarter in BIRKENHEAD  Volume 08A  Page 558

So many names and dates plus I look up my own stuff at the same time which further confuses

PS: Names shared in this post only came up by taking Barnsley out of search field

Once again thank you Alan
Frances and Nora were born to Patrick and Maria Kelly (my 2x great grandparents) and lived well into their 80’s they lived in Barnsley all their lives. Is it possible to find out if there were any Kelly births in Manchester between 1877 + 1881 mothers maiden name Egan?

Thank you for these Alan but these dates coincide with the births of Patrick and Maria’s other children.
Much appreciated though

On the Gro when you look up deaths it only lists name and age but not mother's maiden name...and of course many Kelly's die each year so the list is long (2 pages). If you find out any more I can help lookup possibly.
