Title: Ancestry subscription discounts - help!
Post by: Caw1 on Sunday 07 March 21 09:26 GMT (UK)
Good morning

I’m trying to use the discount for Ancestry subs that has been used over the past few years but with the link that was given it only seems to offer a 6 month and I know I got a 12 month one last year but can’t work out how I did it!

I’d be really grateful for some help...

Thanks
Caroline

Refresh the screen Caroline and the 12 month option will magically appear.  Or at least it did for me just a week ago.

That is strange Caroline as that link is offering me 12 months for half price and I have a subscription running at the moment.  Are you logged into your account.

Have you tried it when you are logged in.

I have just logged out of my account and tried the link posted above and it took me to the subscriptions page offering me for UK & Ireland
1 Month - Auto Renewing, Cancel Anytime.   £13.99 (UK)   £19.99 (Everything)
6 Months - Auto Renewing, Cancel Anytime.   £69.99 (UK).     £99.99. (Everything
plus a census only option.

Logged back in and I am getting the 12 month half price offer

Great news Caroline, so glad you managed to get the offer.   :).

I agree about FindMyPast but have been with them since they started, I don't mind too much about paying full price (less 15%) for them as they are a UK company

Yes, well I might have to bite the bullet and pay the price less the 15%... last year somehow I managed to get a year for under £100 think it was a special offer!
I too have been with them along time and found them very useful...

Thanks again

Caroline

Thanks for the tip of being logged in Rosie99 it went straight to the offer from the link Sandra posted - Just tried to renew I’m hoping that it’s just a blip as I keep getting this message

“There seems to be a problem with your order. Please try again later or contact Member Services.”

Will try again tomorrow - 🤞

Caw1 - can I ask did it show this message when you renewed when you were logged on to your account?

*Offer available for new subscribers only and not for renewal of current subscriptions.

Edit to add - I don’t currently have a subscription cancelled my renewal two weeks ago

It does, but as soon as your subscription has expired completely and you are showing as a guest, you count as a new member and it works.

Has your subscription expired - it doesn't expire as soon as you cancel, it runs as normal until the end of the subscription.

I was hoping so......I've given it another go this morning and I'm still receiving this notice
“There seems to be a problem with your order. Please try again later or contact Member Services.”  ???

Will leave it a couple of days and will try again if it still doesn't work then I'll get my OH to sign up
and hopefully that should do the trick.

Will report back

Really sorry to read your having a problem. It was ok last month so this would be a new development if it is not working now.  :-\

4 th October was about the last successful update I saw.

Thanks Sandra for the update

I was still having difficulty and getting the message…….there seems to be a problem with your order
my OH suggested removing my card details and re entering them (exactly the same card expiry date etc.)  hey presto it’s worked and I’ve got the great deal again for another year - a big thank you  :)

I have tried all the options above and even used a VPN but cannot get the 50% off or a 12 month subscription option.  ???

I’ve used it very recently and it still works (if you’re in the uk, anyway).

I cancelled my ancestry auto renewal then when it had lapsed ( you show as a guest- all your trees etc are still there though) you log in to ancestry then open another page and use the link on this second page. You seem to need ancestry to be open already for the link to work. Try that if you haven’t. It won’t work if you have a current subscription ..fingers crossed

It does seem to be temperamental at times. If you have already had a subscription, make sure you cancelled auto renew and that you are showing as a guest. It works better on a laptop. Several people in other groups have had problems, left it a couple of days, tried again and it works.

Has your current subscription finished ? Have you got two tabs open, one where you are logged in as a guest and the other showing the offer, as shown on the link  ?
Sometimes if you remove your previous card details and then put those back in on the new link, it can make a difference.

Success at last!  ;D  After trying for most of this month to find the elusive offer page I thought I'd exhausted all the possibilities [see  https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=862437.18].
Then today I right-clicked the link, saved it to my desktop as an html file and opened it in my browser. I have no idea why that would work, but on this occasion it did.
Thank you, Sandra and others, for encouraging me to keep trying.  :)
