Title: Three interesting chaps from Colne
Post by: pendlelad on Thursday 04 March 21 13:53 GMT (UK)
Please can someone restore and possibly colour this photo of three working class men from my home town of Colne in Lancashire? Taken by J. Wilkinson, Market Street. Not sure of the date, maybe 1880s?

Thankyou!

This might start a debate but I don't think they are
working class lads.
This looks like a posed photo of 3 men in working class
clothes.
They look well scrubbed &  their shoes look in a better
condition than one would expect.
Also I think 1870's.
Nice photo all the same.

I bought it off Ebay and for some reason it was in Germany, not sure how it ended up there. Thanks for your input, they do look rather well presented, but are also wearing clogs?

1870s wow. Quite an early one then.

The one on the right is definitely wearing 'proper' workman's clogs.

They might have washed their faces and hands and shaved in preparation!
I disagree about their shoes. One man was wearing clogs. The other man's shoes look worn.
Fingers of the man standing are slightly discoloured or is it the photo?

The man on the right - wearing clogs, although I don't think they are the wooden soled ones with metal plate clog irons, also appears to be wearing some sort of "jeans" - small hem - could they be "moleskin" trousers?  And the hands and fingers are definitely "well-used" and not too scrubbed.

Very interesting  :) :)

They match his "weskit".

Totally not asked for in this post, but, I’m from a Colne family, brought up in Colne & I have seen this photo before. I can’t help thinking the chap on the right has such a familiar face..... it’s very frustrating to not know who they are!
