Title: Kirkburton marriage bans 1811
Post by: Milliepede on Friday 26 February 21 16:07 GMT (UK)
Grateful for opinions on this please.

I've been looking to progress backwards from ggg grandparents Sarah Wood and James Hinchliffe who married in Kirkburton 4 Nov 1816 and have found banns were 13 October 1811

Should there have been another lot closer to the marriage presuming this is the same couple?

I don't have a birth place for James as he died pre 1851 and whilst Sarah did marry again no fathers name was listed.

Thanks for looking.

banns, very faded, are online Sept 22 & 29, Oct 6 1816. There were both otp on the marriage.

Thank you.  Do you think 1811 was the same people?  Might help me with calculating backwards when they were born.

I have looked for baptisms before but don't know how to pin the right ones down for sure.

there's no detail on the banns to be able to identify them. No marriage for James & Sarah after the earlier banns. Could be the same couple.

When did Sarah remarry? Do you have her on census entries?

Millie, have you noticed that the next banns on the page for the 1811 entry are for a John Hinchliffe,  just in case it helps your search for James origins.  :-\

Thanks yes I have Sarah on all census.

1841 with James in Huddersfield.

1851 as a widow in Huddersfield.

1861 with second husband as Sarah Woodhead in Cumberworth.

Full details not to hand just now but I think the marriage was 1853.

If their ages on the 1841 census are accurate, and the enumerator doesn't seem to be rounding down,
they would have been very young to marry in 1811.

The 1841 is a bit of a mess with names/ages unfortunately but down as

James 45
Sarah 48

The death I have for James is 12 July 1843 age 55.

In 1851 Sarah is 55 born Kirkburton

Marriage was 29 Jan 1854 to William Woodhead (no father for him either but his first marriage showed a father)  Her age there was 59.

In 1861 Sarah is 67 born Cumberworth where she was living with her husband.

She died 29 March 1864 age 74 so again age not exactly in sync.  I do know this is the right death however as her married daughter was the informant.

The marriage was witnessed by Uriah and John Hinchcliffe and a David Cartwright Sarah mistranscribed as Weed.

Thanks yes I've looked for a connection to Uriah and not found one.
