I've had some great help from you chaps on here before, so I'm after a little more if possible?
My GGrandfather, Joseph Scaife was in the Merchant Navy, on the ship SS AYDON in 1915, and I'm just trying to establish what his place of discharge was as I can't make it out.
Out of all the men onboard, only 4 of them left on the date of 8.5.1915, at a place what looks like 'Bartonhow' or something. I just can't get it.
He's on line 49.
Is anyone familiar with what it might be?
The front page of the Crew Agreement states that it was a 'home trade only' voyage, which seems to have started on 11.1.1915 at Devonport? and ended on 15th July 1915 at Barrow in Furness.
Many thanks,
Jayne xx

Hi,
J Scarfe line 49 (if I am looking at the correct name ) appears to be on a different ship but the word you are looking for may be "Birkenhead".

I agree, Birkenhead.

I saw it as Birkenhead, immediately.

Thanks to everyone - HOW did I miss Birkenhead? Now you've told me, it's obvious!
Brilliant as always,
