Title: Help deciphering a name
Post by: soulsister on Thursday 18 February 21 11:30 GMT (UK)
I am having trouble deciphering one of the brother's names in this will. I have managed all the other names, but this one has me stumped!

Hope SKS is able to help!

Thank You in Advance!

Is it possible to post a bigger snip for letter comparison?

Maybe include surname/date/place.

My initial thought was Dwight?

Thank You for your reply! I also read it as Dwight, but that is such an unusual name for the time!

I have added a fuller picture of the handwriting!

I have also added an area which has very similar letter formation.

It's George. The writer seems to merge his 'e' with the following letter in some cases - look at 'Leonard' in the top line of the large extract. The example you found ('bequeath') shows the same thing, although what follows is the first part of the 'q' rather than the whole of the 'o'.

The name in question is George.

Edit: Arthur posted while I was writing but will post anyway.

Thank You all for taking the time to read and reply!

George definitely sounds a better fit then Dwight! Just to find more documents with this family group on now!

Thank You again!
Most appreciated,

Emma :)
