Hi All
I am usually not too bad with deciphering some old wills and handwriting, but finding this one a touch frustrating.
Some background - this relates to a widow Jane Parvis/Parvys - previously had lived at Soley in Chilton Foliat, Wiltshire but seemingly after her husband Henry's death in 1588 signed over her interest in the property to her son Jewell/Juell/Joel in 1594 and next record of her is this administration in 1614 managed by her son in law Humphrey Gunter who had married her eldest daughter Elizabeth. By then she was living in West Knoyle, Wiltshire.
Her husband's will gives the names of their children as Joel (aka Jewell), John, Richard, Thomas, Elizabeth Gunter, Joane/Jane, Anne, Mary and Valentyne. I am not sure if Valentine ends up being known as Edith as Jane's son Thomas's will of 1617 mentions his sister Edith but no mention of Valentyne.
The following is available on Ancestry via the Wiltshire Wills collection and is copyright Wiltshire and Swindon Archives and is reproduced in order to help with deciphering in chunks:

Last section in Latin – but contains names relating to Jane’s children, Jewell, John, Richard – crossed out, Thomas, Elizabeth Anne, Jane, possibly Edith and Marie/Mary.)
The second page I will post as a reply to this as two more attachments to include.

Thanks so much - certainly helping understand a bit more about the document. Hopefully get some more understanding on the rest later. Really appreciate the help so far horsleydown86 and Hephzibah!
-
Dear Horsleydown, I've been hoping you'd come on so I could see where I'd gone wrong. Thank you, it really helps as well as helping the initial poster!
Please could you tell me what kind of gown is it in Snip 2 Line 3 and is the spelling correct?

Please could you tell me what kind of gown is it in Snip 2 Line 3 and is the spelling correct?
I agree with your reading apart from the first vowel being an o.
The list on this webpage contains three mentions of this type of gown (with diverse spellings - search for grog):

Thank you so much for all your help - at some point I will ask for some help with the Latin will of her son John Parvis!!!
-
You're welcome. But if the document regarding her son is in Latin, it won't be a will -- perhaps a Judicial Sentence.
-
Yes, you might be right - the National Archives gives two references:

Looks like Ancestry doesn't have the 156 piece referred to above so don't have the copy of that will only the sentence - good thing I double checked on the National Archives - will download the proper will document from there this afternoon and have a read!
