This is an entry for my GGM, Alice Phillips:

Thanks for help

Here's a snip from the original :-\

The Familysearch transcriber has capitalised and separated the letters but in the original it looks like the word "as".
I'm wondering whether that word was added to signify that Alice was being treated as an employee despite being a relative of the head of the family.

I notice that Allice is a step-daughter on the original. Her mother is listed as a Public Inn Keeper so it is highly likely that Allice served in the pub.

Maybe an attempt at shortening assistant

Hi to all, and thanks for looking up the original together with your suggestions. I think you are right, my GGM's story is that she helped run the pub and looked after her siblings (their father had died age 36 in 1873, her mother had remarried). Kind wishes, Peter
