Title: Mary O'Connor: ? place name 1850 ships manifest
Post by: oldkingkole on Saturday 13 February 21 07:35 GMT (UK)
Ship manifest for the Bussorah Merchant which sailed from London shows Margaret and Mary O'Connor, aged 20 and 21, arriving at Geelong in June 1850. Both listed as  'Single. housemaid'.
Can't find the place of origin or one in Tipp that looks likely?
I read it as something like 'apimore'.
But 'api' doesn't strike me as any irish word/part word? ('mor' of of course does).
Comparing to other writing on the page, the first letter is consistent with 'a', eg as used in 'armagh',  butnot a possible alternate of 'c',  'c' letters look different. The second letter is like the 'p' in 'Tipperary'. It is not a long 's' : these aren't found in the passenger details.

There are no other O'Connor's on the manifest.
There is a person arriving from Killoscully and another from Dundrum. But the passengers are from from every corner of Ireland: no pattern.

Lastly a death cert for this Mary O'Connor in 1896 puts her place of birth as "Co. Clare".  Nothing jumps out here either?
I've attached the word in question, and a snippet from the page to show lettering.
Hoping someone will know straight off :)
