Title: Diary > Sunday 7th February
Post by: Roobarb on Monday 08 February 21 00:27 GMT (UK)
Didn't manage to get out today either, we had blizzards for most of the day and it was bitterly cold. The snow was the fine powdery sort, it didn't lay apart from bits on the lawn. I kept thinking I might go out but when I went outside to the bin or the freezer I'd realise it hadn't really stopped, you could feel the snow in the air.

Resigned myself to the fact that I'd be going nowhere and got on with some housework while I could face it. Put some washing in, was almost holding my breath, was relieved when it completed the full cycle without any problems. I've a feeling that it had thrown itself off balance the other day and needed to reset. The vacuum cleaner went flat before I'd completed what I was doing, carried on with the dusting. Washed the ornaments - vases and that sort of thing. They get dusted regularly but always look better for a wash.

Changed the printer cartridge and printed my reference photo for the next class project. I bought some new paper for this, it was rather expensive so I hope I make a good job of it.

Salmon for tea, just cooked it in the oven, a plain food day today. Watched Who Wants to be a Millionaire then the Pottery Throwdown. This series is quite fascinating, I'm in awe at some of the tasks they complete. I'm guessing that there was a limited number of subjects for the one of making a bust of a musical legend. I would have picked one with distinctive features which I don't think many did. It's a double challenge, not only making the bust so that it survives the firing process but also making it look like the subject. Can't wait to see what happens next week.

A quiet and hot Sunday for me. Sheltered indoors and binge watched Unforgiven (Suranne Jones) - an oldie but a goodie. Then moved on to Gentleman Jack - something different.  :)

It was still 30 degrees indoors at about 9pm.  :P I do envy your blizzard Roobarb.

I presume this is something you have already tried, but if you are having problems with your washing machine, you might find solutions on the internet - there are instruction booklets, troubleshooting etc etc on there. Sometmes the issue can be complicated by different opinions and solutions, but worth having a look in case you find a quick and easy fix. Let’s hope it behaves itself.

Sunday was a ”quiet” day for us. A sunny morning with a few snowflakes but nothing to warrant getting the snow shovel out. Still cold and according to the weather forecast likely to stay that way for the coming week. We have now had several what we call national ice days , that is 24 hours of temperatures below freezing throughout the whole of Sweden.

My normal morning routine of quietly slipping out of the bedroom early to avoid waking OH. Emptied the dishwasher from Satutrday evening, bunged a couple of cleaning tablets in and ran the cleaning programme. Just after eight got a panic shout for help from OH. Ran upstairs to discover that she’d tried to get from bed into her wheelchair and got stuck. The night bag from her ileostomy had got detached and there was a runny smelly mess of semi liquid poo in her nightie, the bed and on the floor, but luckily not in her chair. Fortunately the night bag on her urostomy was OK. Got her into her chair and into the bathroom. Dried her tears, cleaned and emptied both ostomy bags, helped her shower then back into the bedroom and put her in my side of the bed. Cleaned the floor, thank goodness we took out the fitted carpet and put in parquet flooring years before she had the ostomy surgeries. Took the soiled bedclothes off her bed, we have two 90 centimeter single beds pushed together to form a king size, remade her bed with clean matress protector, sheet, duvet and duvet cover. Downstairs with the soiled bedlinen and in the machine.

Then traipsed back up to a still very tearful OH, carried her downstairs wrapped her up sat her in her chair and wheeled her outside while I went back in and got breakfast. All of this before nine o’clock.

After breakfast watched the Sunday Good Morning show for a while before I got our coffee and we went outside to sit in the corner by the garage and get some sun. OH listened to an audio book while I fiddled around on the iPad.

Around one I realised it was probably time to get some lunch. We had half of yesterday’s lunch left so I fried a few mushrooms to add to it and we had that. Afterwards OH wanted to go out again as she said she wanted to make the most of still being able to ”see” the sun. Took the iPad with me and read some choice snippets of news to her including the reports about the first round of Swedish Song for Europe from Saturday evening. We’re obviously totally off as regards music because the song that went through to the final was about the worst load of rubbish we agreed we’d ever heard. Noticed that she was smoking more than usual which given the circumstances I could understand.

Stayed outside for a while until the sun dipped behind the trees. Once back in I got the bed linen which I’d completely forgotten about out of the washing machine and in the drying cupboard before I settled in front of the main computer and OH listened to an audio book.

After a light tea we settled in the couch and watched The Sound of Music again. We’d read that Christopher Plummer had died on Friday so OH thought it would be nice to see the film again. We’ve watched it dozens of times before, it comes up regularly on TV around Christmas and so OH remembers almost exactly the screenplay which means I don’t have to describe what’s happening and we can just listen and enjoy. Upstairs just after ten, went through the evening routine and got OH into a nice clean bed where I very soon joined her for a snuggle the night before I drive her to the hospital for her eye surgery.

What a day you all had!
Hope all goes well for OH today Glyn.

I woke to a lot of white water under a heavy cloudy sky, but suddenly a remarkable thing happened when the sun, still low in the sky, found a chink in the cloud bank. For around one minute the whole view was bathed in a rosy glow making the russet sand look like it was on fire, and giving the white edge to every wave a pink frill. As the light altered again, and the view faded back to normal, it almost felt like I had been hallucinating!
Walked the back streets beyond Preston as far as Hollicombe where the old gas works used to be. Worth a visit annually to see a couple of gorgeous mimosa trees in full flower there. Returned along the coast path via Preston. 4 cruise ships at anchor.  The tide wasn't very far out and an unusually large group of perhaps 20 to 30 oyster catchers was close enough for a good view, but, as expected, masses of visitors had driven to the beach, so we avoided the Esplanade to get home.
H watched the rugby. I roasted a turkey leg for our tea.
I watched the songs from musicals, which I enjoyed and then stayed up late to watch the "Les Mis" anniversary programme. Fabulous.
Stay warm and stay safe, unless you are sweltering in Oz!! (I thought "Gentleman Jack" was really well done.)

Glywri,
I am sure I am not alone in not wanting to read such personal details of your wife’s medical condition on what is generally a fairly light hearted diary forum. Despite being part of your day you do not have to share everything. Please show some restraint and afford your wife some dignity. I refer specifically to the details about poo and such like which are unnecessarily overly graphic.

Other details of your day - all good ....

Added: while I am at it ... same message to Griff.

These daily diaries are mainly here to keep up uplifted during these challenging times.

If we can continue using them for that, then it would be wonderful.  :)

Are you speaking for everybody, or is this your personal opinion?
No one is forced to read them, and I thought a diary was to record good and bad. Nowhere does it say "light hearted diary"
That's My opinion.
