I have lost my grandmother for about 22 years of her life - Can anyone help me locate her please.
Mary Findlay born in Wynford, Cumbernauld in1889 to Alexander Findlay and Agnes Thomson (m.1869 in Denny). Agnes died in 1890 and Alexander is shown in the 1891 census as a widower, but no sign of the 2 year old Mary. Neither does she show in the 1901 census but I find her again in 1911 married to James Comrie in Kilsyth. I believe she may have been "farmed out" to a sibling since there were a number of them, some still at home with their father in Wynford, Cumbernauld.
Mary died in 1973 and is buried in Kilsyth - she and James lived in the Falkirk area most of their lives.
The spelling of the family name varies throughout the years hence Findlay/Finlay/Finley.
Any help would be appreciated

It looks like this might be Mary in 1891 but she is not with other Findlay’s, you would need to see original on SP or elsewhere.
FINDLAY MARY 1891 age 3 495/ 9/ 8 Cumbernauld Dunbarton
In 1881 there was another Mary with the family but she died in 1888 age 17.

In 1901 Cumbernauld
This may be the same Mary, now age 12, she is with James Findlay and Janet Findlay age 35 plus 4 other children age 0 to 8
A JAMES FINDLAY married JANET WHYTE 1892 Cumbernauld, so it is unlikely that Mary is their daughter.

Thank you for this Colin. I have these documents but as you say, she is not with other Findlays and the names don't tie up. The other issue is that the Mary in these docs is shown as born in Saltcoats and my Mary was born in Cumbernauld.
Thanks for looking
