Any clues to a birthyear or if he married?  Parents names?

Scottish 1901 has a George A Berry b 1895 Dundee parents George A & Eliza.  3 siblings at that time

if he did not survive the war and his record survived (i.e. not under the burnt records issue) then CWGC website may give you information on his family. Tony

here is medal card for him..

Missing Voters at
http://www.fdca.org.uk/1919_Dundee_Absentee_Voters.html

http://www.fdca.org.uk/pdf%20files/1919%20AbsVoters%20B.pdf

has him listed at 37 Baxter Street which is just off City Road

You could try Valuation at Scotlands People which list a Alexander Berry at 37 Baxter Street in 1915, brother maybe.. or Census 1901, 1911... which would give you siblings...

Hope these are of use and interest,
Regards

With the mention of 37 Baxter Street for George Berry above, there is an entry in the 1915 Valuation Rolls in Dundee on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk for an Alexander Berry at that address. At least 2 other households at that address. Alexander Berry does not show there by 1920.

There are a few family trees on a/try. Not really much details on them. They do give mother Mary Ann's maiden name as Armet.  Also, a refence to a WW1 death for brother Alexander. I think it is this one www.cwgc.org/find-records/find-war-dead/casualty-details/2753465/A%20BERRY/

Death George Robertson Berry , age 80 , 1976 , Dundee Angus , mothers maiden surname Grant.
Might connect to marriage Alexander Berry / Helen Grant 1887 St Mary(Dundee) Angus.
Death Helen Berry(other surname Grant) , age 33 , 1897 St Mary(Dundee) Angus.

Don't know if any of that matches up with the man you seek  :-\

Also, a reference to a WW1 death for brother Alexander. I think it is this one www.cwgc.org/find-records/find-war-dead/casualty-details/2753465/A%20BERRY/

There's a newspaper item for this Alexander, which may help.

Dundee People's Journal
23 Nov 1918
page 12, column 2
For Their Country
Berry
At a Military Hospital, Dublin,
on 8th inst.,
Pte Alexander Berry,
eldest son of Mr Alexander Berry, stepson of Mrs A Berry,
37 Baxter St., Dundee,
and beloved brother of Bella?, George, and Mrs W Nugent
- sadly missed
(Fife? papers please copy)

This may just be coincidence but there are later newspaper items for another Alexander Berry at the same address but given his age it isn't the father.

Dundee Courier
27 Nov 1925
Probing Dundee Fatalities
Disclosure in Sheriff Court Inquiries
- three fatal accidents occurred in Dundee were
- inquired into by Sheriff Malcolm
- Alexander Berry, rigger, 37,
- of 37 Baxter Street, Dundee
- Berry slipped off end of boiler being erected at the Gasworks,
- where he was employed, and struck by falling shear poles
- Berry died in the infirmary same day

Woman Killed In Dundee
A Fall Of Sixteen Feet
- Helen Grant or Berry
- wife of Alexander Berry
- 34 Fleuchar Street, Dundee
- killed yesterday after falling onto a paling
- from a platform 16 feet high
- she had been washing clothes early in the morning
- and about 11 o'clock proceeded upstairs to her sister-in-law,
- who resides in the second flat of the building,
- where deceased lived, in order to hang out clothes to dry
- whilst hanging clothes she lost her balance, on a stool,
- and fell over the platform
- she caught the rope, used for hanging clothes,
- and alighted on an upright paling
- she was carried to her house but died 2 hours afterwards

Dundee Advertiser
07 Dec 1897
page 6, column 3
[as above but stated Mrs Berry was 31 years of age]

This may, or may not, be related but various newspaper items reference a George Berry, a football secretary, living at 22 Fleuchar Street in the late 1880s.
