I have the details of an Australian army officer from the WWII Nominal Roll
https://nominal-rolls.dva.gov.au/
There is no sign of this person on the the Australian National Archives where I have previously always found a service record for anyone on the nominal roll.
Anyone else had this issue - any reason for a record to be missing? security? privacy?

No, sometimes harder to find because of name variations. Who are you after?

Very basic English name - definitely not there. (I searched as well, via the army number once I had the nominal roll record) I'm looking for reasons, rather than asking someone else to do the search.
thanks

Although they are National Archives they are kept by state.
Is this just a problem of the wrong state?
Or have they just not been digitised?
Or have you not provided sufficient evidence of relationship?
Is the person alive or have their next of kin embargoed their records?
Added:
I was in a National Archives office
and asked for a category of records I knew existed
but which did not appear on their catalogue.
They said they would check their card catalogue and contact me.
So it appears that not al their records are on the digital catalogue,
Some are still only indexed on cards.
It would be worth you contacting them.
I recollect a query service on the website.
You value your own privacy
so I know you respect the rights of others to safeguard theirs.

Perhaps Westward could consider sending an enquiry to the NAA.... in the meanwhile, I recall that NAA and or DVA contacted several of my uncles, who had served in the Army WWII and in Occupation forces Japan and one saw service the Malay campaign.... they were given the option to decline having their service records digitised and uploaded. All promptly declined.... they are all still living.
I can see their nominal roll listings, but NOTHING displays at NAA record search. I have checked with a first cousin who served Malay and Vietnam. He too declined a similar offer. No sighting of him at NAA record search either
