Hi
What are the best guesses for the surname of Mary Davies’s (widow) father Thomas (and therefore her maiden name) in the attached. Thank you
-
Fairly sure it's Manuel
-
It's been transcribed as Manuel by Ancestry as well

Thanks. Follow on Query. Mary was born about 1807, Llanelly. Her first husband was Thomas Davies born about 1811, Llanelly. Their first child was born about 1829, so therefore the marriage would have been around 1828 Carmarthenshire. However I can’t find a marriage between Thomas Davies and Mary Manuel in the Carmarthenshire parish records?

Think I may have found it. Llangendeirne 06 April 1827, Thomas Davies and Mary Emanuel
-
Perhaps it’s not the surname but describes the occupation manual labourer with the word manual inserted in the wrong box.

I'm in South Wales and know a few people with the surname Manuel - it's why I recognised it straight off. It may well of course be a variant of Emanuel
-
Still some Emanuels living in Five Roads and descended from Graig Farm.
