Can anyone help with this at all please? I have a marriage between John Jones and Susanna Priest on 18/08/1822 in Old Swinford but searches on Ancestry etc only give the names of the married couple and a date. There is no image or additional detail. I am trying to find out more detail such as parents' names, occupation, witnesses etc. This detail often seems to be there but not in this case. Is there a way to get more detail? Any help would be great. Thanks :)

At a Family Search library. Bishops Transcripts anyway.

Marriage is on FreeReg

Bachelor and spinster.
Witnesses Joseph Williams and Mary Moseley.
Names of fathers are not given on marriages prior to 1 July 1837. Similarly, occupations of grooms are not usually given either.

Thank you that is helpful but I didn't realize that fathers wren't on early records. I am trying to find out his father's name. On the 1851 census he declares his age as 60 and place of birth as Edgbaston. But, I can't find any birth in 1791 that matches.
I can find a John Jones son of John and Esther Jones born 8 November 1789 and christened at St Bartholomew’s Edgbaston and a John Jones born on 9 August 1789 son of John and Mary Jones and christened at the New Meeting House Moor Street-Unitarian, Birmingham. Not sure what to ry next but thanks again for the marriage info.

Normally I would look for all childrens bapts to see if the names John/Esther appear.
1841 in Rowley Regis we have;
John Jones 45 Grinder
Sueshanah Jones 40
Edward Jones 15
Mary Jones 15
William Jones 12
Phebe Jones 10
John Jones 7
Barbra Jones 5
Only last to children born Staffs.
Edward Jesse Jones was bapt Cradley, Worcs and a non conformist bapt at Park Lane Chapel.
(Presbyterian)

With such a common name as Jones he may be hard to pin down.

This is definitely the family but finding John's parents is the problem and as you say with a common name that makes it even more difficult. I wonder why they had one child baptized in a Unitarian church and the rest in C of E? Thanks for your help by the way.

We have John's death, I think! In 1856
JONES, JOHN
Age at Death (in years): 66
GRO Reference: 1856 J Quarter in KINGS NORTON Volume 06C Page 223
Buried at Smethwick, 6 April 1856.
Abode Rolfe Street, as per 1851 census.
Info from FreeReg again.
That age is quite a good match for the November 1789 Edgbaston baptism, though we don't have any proof it is the right one.
John

Thank you. This is really useful because as you say it helps with dating his birth. :)
