Title: Can anyone help. Trying to locate information.
Post by: Emmalc91 on Thursday 21 January 21 11:50 GMT (UK)
Hi. This is my first post so please let me know if this is not in the correct place.

I am searching for my partners grandad, more specifically a photograph however I can’t find his military records. I have a document that he complied in the 50’s to gain a copy of his discharge documents. This has his rank and states he was in the pioneer corps. It also has his number on it.

I have searched the IWM, ancestry and the other links available for free searches. I have come up with nothing. I know this is a stab in the dark but can anyone help? I am able to provide the information I have or take on board any suggestions which may assist my search.

Thank you for reading. Emma.

Hi and welcome to rootschat  ;D

You are looking for service records in the 1950s? As you are not next of kin you first need next of kins permission and anything you could potentially get  would be very limited ( if available at all) and cost you £30 details here https://www.gov.uk/get-copy-military-service-records/apply-for-someone-elses-records

Your partner will presumably have a closer relationship with the Grandad than you do so he/she should apply for his records using the link given by iluleah.  Look carefully at the next of kin requirement on the application form.

Be aware though that service records do not have photographs if that is specifically what you are looking for.
