I am unable to figure out what the father's given name is in this baptism of Gilbert Kinder. It is from 1655 in Essex. At first I thought it must be Hry (Henry) but having read a few more pages the first letter appears to be a W - see the last line of the clip attached in which we have Henry Walch showing the difference between the writer's H and W. There are several baps where this given name is written and it is always written the same way with a dot in the loop.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Scrabble

think it could be Mr Wm with a bit of a tail on the m. :-\

It is definitely Wm (for William), with an extended tail on the m (as osprey says).
Have a look in the same register for any other children for William Kinder at the same period?

it is translated as Wm for father and Judith for mother in FindMyPast

Thank you all very much. I can see it now, it was the tail on the m that threw me!
