Hi all, happy new year to you all,
I have the above in the 91 census, but have failed to find him in the 71, or 81. He was born 1864, his mother is Phoebe b 1841.
Please can someone help?
Thank you
Lis

Maybe you would like to give us the details for him on the 1891 census :-\

Yes sorry Rosie99, I should have given you more info.
So we have Phoebos Chappell 50 b Mortomby 1841
Richard b 8164 Thorpe Hesley
Joseph b 1868 Thorpe Hesley
Ernest b 1878 Thorpe Hesley
Jennett b 1885 Thorpe Hesley
big gaps in the births of the last 2 children
I found a Thomas Chappell with a Phoebe nee Jackson with different children, no marriage for these two. All very puzzling.
Thanks
Lis

wonderful thank you Rosie99, what does mmn mean, and why Thornhill instead of Chapel, name change?
-
mmn - mothers maiden surname.
If the Richard Chapel birth registration is correct then he appears to have been illegitimate but you would need the certificate to confirm his mother is Phoebe. The next 2 Joseph 1867 and Albert 1870 presuming they are the correct registrations are registered under their fathers name with mothers maiden surname Chapel

Phoebe/Phebey and her mother Mary are in Ecclesfield in 1861
