Title: Prestwich School and Library next door
Post by: uk2003 on Sunday 03 January 21 16:37 GMT (UK)
Hi Folks

I am trying to dig out some history for a group of OAP's me included for our old junior school we attended in the 1960's.

Can anyone supply me with Census reference numbers for these 2 buildings, I know one was staffed all the time (Library) so should show up on the census records. 1861/71/81/91/01/ and 11 if it is allowed been a long time doing a hunt

St Margarets Sunday School (Rooden Lane) or Bury Old Road, Heaton Park, Prestwich - see attached png

Many thanks for looking

Unless someone stayed there overnight on a census night -- they may not show up on a census unfortunately.

Pennines, when I worked in a library some kids believed staff slept upstairs so that someone was there to guard the books at night. ;D They were surprised and a bit anxious if they saw a "library lady" in a shop or out in a street. It was as if they thought we were like nuns and the library was our convent.
On a serious note, I agree with Pennines, neither building will be on a census unless there was a resident caretaker, which I doubt.

Oh Gosh Maiden Stone -- you could have done that overnight -- dressed in a white sheet! The children would have thought the library was haunted and wouldn't dare misbehave!

Two mischievous children hid one evening before closing time. When they emerged from hiding and moved around, the burglar alarm went off. The janitor was alerted by police, returned to the building and discovered the young culprits.  ::)
