Hi all,
I'm currently researching my paternal Irish ancestry and I have hit a bit of a dead end with my great grandmother Mary. She was born in Dromkeen in 1927/28, and was brought over to England by her Uncle when she was 7. Her mothers maiden name was Fitzgerald and there have been stories in my family that it's the same Fitzgerald family as JFK, although I don't know how true this is.
As far as I know both of her brothers died in World War 2 and her 2 sisters came with her to England. Her sisters were called Margaret and Christina/Christine. I also believe her father was John, but again I'm not certain.
She married my great grandfather Alfred Day in 1951 in greenwich, London and subsequently became Mary Day.
If any other information is needed please let me know. :)

Hello ellimarie,
Are we looking for a Meehan/Fitzgerald marriage and then back from there?

We are indeed, I would assume it would be before her brothers were born which would be pre-1920.
-
What was her uncle’s name?
Where were they living in England?
Her marriage certificate would confirm her father’s name?

What were the names of her brothers born pre-1920? Was one James?

I'm 90% sure that she had a brother called John, although James is also a good shout but I'll have to ask my Grandmother to be sure. :)

More information that I have just received about her brothers, they were called Patrick, Jimmy (possible James) and Michael

What do you think of the information found already?
Irish births are only online to 1919.
You can search the indexes here for the other children https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/1408347
If they moved to England before 1939, you might find them in the 1939 register on Ancestry or FindmyPast.

All information so far seems correct when put up against what I already know. I will have a look at the 1939 register :)

My grandmother has said that Mary did have a brother Michael who died sometime during D day.
She also mentioned that Mary’s brother Jimmy (James?) was a radio officer in the Navy and her other brother David was killed in Italy.
If Michael and Joannah had sons with those names then I think these are the right people. :)

Here is David

So it looks to be the right family.
If you don’t have the marriage certificate to Alfred, that would confirm Mary’s father’s name.
You can order a research copy of Mary’s birth certificate for 4 euros
https://www2.hse.ie/services/births-deaths-and-marriages/get-certificates/ordering-certificates.html
PJ has posted the family details for Michael and I posted Michael and Johanna’s marriage details - her father, David.

Mary Mulcahy was baptized to Patrick and Bridget Treacy on 12th August 1855 in Corelish.
She had at least 9 other siblings.
