This is Captain Holland, brother to my 4xg grandmother. Is there any way of identifying and dating this uniform, which might help me find out his first name and therefore locate his family?

When was your 4 x g grandmother born? I'm thinking along the lines of the Waterloo Battle era which was in 1815.
It could be earlier.
I find it a little puzzling that you know he is your 4 x g grandmother's brother but don't know his name.

There around 20 officers named Holland in the 1814 Army List

The man in the portrait could be a higher rank than a captain (circa 1815).
Perhaps a colonel, an army captain of the period only had one epaulette on the left shoulder only.

Thank you for the replies. I am actually trying to track down my 3x g grandmother Eleanor Holland who was born between 1799 to 1805. My first "sight" of her is a mention in a diary of 1823, but first official record, the birth of her first son in 1826, (3 years before her marriage). I was hoping that identifying the brother might help. The army roll names were helpful, thank you.

Any idea where she was born? If we know that we may be able to help find a baptism for her.

The facings (colour of collar) are either, blue (statistically most likely) or black, and it’s a silver laced regiment. With those features it would be possible to narrow the regiment’s down if they are shown alongside each of the Holland’s listed?
