This is a marriage for which a number of people have searched for many years. No-one knows the surname of this lady who married Samuel Ray (1656-1738), Grocer of the Parish, and who are both interred under a brick tomb in our churchyard. There are no clues as to her surname in the children's Christian middle names - none given.
I have just been informed that the firstborn son William (who attended Camb. Uni.) was born/baptised in Attleborough, Norfolk which confirms my suspicions that Samuel probably married outside of Suffolk.
I'm hoping that someone might be able to look for a marriage for Samuel Ray in Attleborough in about 1675. It is also possible that the marriage might have occurred in a surrounding parish or even in Norwich.
Thanks for any help in this matter.

Hi
I have a copy of the Attleborough Parish Registers 1552-1840 transcribed by the Norfolk and Norwich Genealogical Society (now the Norfolk Family History Society)
The only reference to the surname RAY is a baptism of “William son of Samuel RAY and Maria 5 November 1676”

Those are the people concerned. Thank you. The marriage took place the previous year, by all accounts. It seems strange that a couple would have their firstborn baptised in a parish in which they had no real connection. Samuel Ray was born and bred Worlingworth, Suffolk as his descendants would be for 150 years.
If there is no marriage in Attleborough, I shall have to look elsewhere - perhaps Norwich first.
Id there such a thing as a CD containing Norfolk marriages?

Samual Ray is a family member. I have a print out of the Ray family starting with Joseph Ray and Sarah Sparrow. No surname for Mary wife of Samual. I can see William Ray buried at Monk Soham? The family chart I have was compiled by Beryl Ray Foster and Clare Wayman,

I run Worlingworth Local History Group. I may have the same chart which I got from John Ray Wayman of Cavendish, supplemented by info from Ron Goose, now sadly deceased. No-one seems to know who Mary was so they must have married outside of Suffolk, possibly Norfolk or London.

Have you seen the marriage of Samuell Roe to Mary Choat 23 Jan 1676/7 at Barking St Mary.
From FreeREG.
