Title: Marriage of Francis Hiat & Joan Dudge
Post by: jibba on Sunday 08 November 20 15:37 GMT (UK)
I'm trying to confirm additional details regarding the marriage of Francis Hiat (Hyatt) & Joan Dudge (Dodge?) which happened in 1763. According to transcripts on Ancestry, FindMyPast and FreeREG this marriage occurred at West Buckland on 8 May, after a bann on 3 April at the same place.

According to the transcript on Ancestry, this came from FHL film 599466. There is also an additional transcript from this film recorded on Ancestry that says the marriage occurred at Allington, Dorset. It is not clear if this entry is another bann, marriage, or a typo. Whilst Ancestry has images of the West Buckland registers, the marriage images stop at 1748 so I cannot confirm if either individual was residing at Allington leading up to the marriage.

Can anyone help to confirm if the Allington reference is correct/actually exists?

I looked at the entry on Freereg which is transcribed from the parish registers. The marriage was at St Mary, West Buckland. This states that both Francis Hiat and Joan Dudge were, "Of this parish". In view of this I think it is unlikely that they could have been living at Allington then.

A post on the Dorset Board might yield some information if someone has the registers for Allington, Dorset. The Somerset and Dorset Family History Society might be able to help too:

Another good site....it has Allington.

The marriage isn't in the listing for 1763
