Hi,
I’m looking for the parents names for Sarah Cooper born about 1790? Lea.
She married Thomas Smith on 14th February 1814 in Crich, with consent from parents. Witnesses William Marsden and Hannah Lomas.
The children I know of were called Sarah Ann, Elizabeth, William and George.
I’ve had no luck in the years I’ve been looking, in tracing her birth record or parents names. If anyone could help me I’d be so happy and really appreciate it.
Thank you

With parental consent implies she was a minor, thus under 21, at marriage.
So I would be looking for a birth slightly later than 1790 - that would have made her 24 at marriage and not needing parental consent.
1793-1798 maybe?

Hi lizdb,
Thanks for replying and thank you for the advice. I’ll try altering the birthdate :)
-
Where did Thomas/Sarah Bapt their children?
Does Sarah appear on the 1851with a dodb/pob?
Trish :)
-
I'v found some of the Bapts.
Did they leave the country by 1841?
-
Hi Trish
Thank you for replying.
I’ve had a look at the baptism records, it just says Ashover but for George he was baptised Dethick Chapel, Ashover.
Thomas died 1837 Crich. I don’t have a death for Sarah or any census details for her.
Sorry I’ve no idea if they left the country. I know William Smith (Sarah’s son) definitely stayed in Derbyshire.

I see that Thomas Smith was living on Lindway Lane at the time of his death, so this might be of some help.
Sarah Smith, Widow, Farmer of Lindway Lane, daughter of William Cooper a Farmer,
married Thomas Walker, Widower, FWK of Plaistow, son of John FWK.
They married 24th July 1838, Crich.

Hi willsmum,
Thank you for replying and thank you so much for this information.
Yes Lindway Lane is correct and Crich is a definite too. William Cooper could be her father then :)
Might be why I couldn’t find a death as her surname had changed

Hello Trish
Thank you :)
Who could Ann Lane be? I’m wondering whether it’s William’s wife but then again the surname Lane ???
-
I cant see a connection for Ann Lane and William Cooper yet. I have tried to connect them.
Remember Census are just a snapshot of that night and William may have not lived there at that address permanently.
-
Ok got it;
1851 Census
Champion, Windley, Duffield
Ann Lane 74 Head Widow Farmer born Atton
William Cooper 77 Brother in Law Widr Prop of Houses born Turnditch
Samuel Mussey 53 Nephew Farmer
Elizabeth Mussey 49
Sarah Mussey 26
Mary Brown 13
Proving if this is your Sarahs Father is going to be a task!
-
Hi Trish,
Thank you for looking for me.
It’s definitely a task, maybe one I’ll never really solve and possibly another dead end but fingers crossed.
:)
-
Hi again
So this William Cooper is married to Ann Lane’s sister? I’ve been trying to figure this out :D
-
Yes looks like it.
You would have to find a Marriage for a Ann to a Mr Lane and and a Marriage for William to that Anns Sister. (Ann and Wiliams Wife would have the same maiden name)
-
Hi,
I had a quick look before I dashed off to work and I did find a marriage for a William Cooper to a Mary Lane. So maybe Ann Lane never married. I’ll have to try find it again. I’m just unsure of the area in Derbyshire (I’ll try find it) ???
-
She was a widow in 1851 though
-
On the 1851 census I’m not sure whether Ann is a widow as it could be a U for unmarried (comparing the letter to the other widows and unmarried) ???
-
The Cooper/Lane Marriage was 25 Jul 1799 so after Sarah Cooper/Smith/Walker was born according to Census.
To confuse more Samuel Massey, Nephew on 1851 Census seems to have married a Elizabeth COOPER
13 Dec 1828 Duffield, Over 21 occp Farmer
1861 Elizabeth Massey is born c 1803 Windley
Sorry leaving this for now as my heads spinning :P
-
Hi Trish,
Oh thank you for the marriage details, so maybe not the parents for Sarah if they married after her birth :(
Another Cooper, it’s a puzzling one is this. Sorry your head was spinning hope you’re okay now :)
