Hello everyone
Can anyone help me with William Richard Hodson (my maternal great grandfather) he was born William Richard Whiteman in 1861 in Duston in Northamptonshire?
I can see him at 7 in 1871 census and he's still a Whiteman, after that he disappears until 1884 when he marries Emma in Birmingham (don't know her maiden name) he's also morphed into a Hodson - I am trying in vain to see their marriage certificate to get some clues about where he/she were inbetween before they got married and to see or how or why he changed his name to Hodson.
You can see him and Emma again in the 1901 census in Aston in Birmingham.

From what you list, it wouldn't appear to be the same person in all records.
Definitely an case for showing when where and with whom.
The 1861 birth should appear on the 1861 census. You don't say where he is.
Does this match the birth certificate and later census?

The one in 1861 looks different to the 1871 census one.

I have 8 Joseph Whiteman's on my family tree from around this area??? I'm not sure which one you are referring to???
How do you know that the Hodson was a name change from Whiteman?
