I'm looking for the parents and birth record of Julia Galer. She married Frederick Pitts in 1841 at Keinton, Somerset, England as per the England & Wales, FreeBMD Marriage Index: 1837-1915 and they are on the 1841 and 1851 Census
I have been through the entire 1841 and 1851 censuses for that village and there is no family with a name similar to Galer.
They later migrated to Australia and on the death records in Australia for her children her maiden name is stated as Gailer or Gala. On some trees in Ancestry her maiden name is spelled Gaylor.
Any help would be appreciated.

Marrriage transcript has her father as Robert Norris - Constable of Chard
Julia was a spinster
Frederic's father was John Pitt, Farmer
Witnesses John Grant & Mary Grant
Marriage is on freereg
-
Thanks Rosie. So given her surname it is possible that Robert Norris married her widowed mother and is maybe her step father?
-
Or her parents were not married at all :-\

Is this your family -

Got them all thanks. Just need to find out who Julia Galer/Gayler belongs to.

I’m sure you have her AUS info, but it’s raining and I have nothing else of interest to find. ;)

I was thinking her mother may be Louisa given they gave the name to two of the girls, but it doesn’t appear they were into carrying on family names.
It’s a pity her death cert didn’t include parents names:

Interesting that Louisa Pitts married a George Parsons born 1838 from Baltonsborough in Portland, Victoria in 1865 (my home town. Mum was a Parsons). Not the same George Parsons who was a witness a James' wedding in 1848 but probably related
-
That is interesting. :)

An uncle/cousin. There were quite a few Parsons in the area.
Maybe children could be witnesses.

You're getting me a bit off track now Jamjar ;-) Interesting point about a child being a witness to a marriage. Will check it out.

Sorry, just trying to link your George to the others.
Here he is in 1841: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MQ1X-NF2
Do you have his arrival? The obit says he came out in 1854. So, did he come out with the PITTS?
Is this his death in 1919?

Sorry for the late reply Jamjar. Had to do some work ;-) Yes that is George's death. He did alright for himself as the son of a 'peasant'. As far as I can tell he didn't come out with the Pitts but I'm having trouble finding a record of his arrival. The closest I have to age at arrival is on the on the 'Morning Star' in 1856 but age is a bit out and date doesn't match his obituary.
