Title: Gumley Parish Registers
Post by: jcsturgis on Friday 26 August 05 13:07 BST (UK)
Does anyone have a copy of the Gumley Parish Registers and would be willing to lookup all birth, marriage and death entries for the surname STURGIS (or STURGESS, STURGES) for me.

Thanks in anticipation.

Hi
I have tried to reply to you on a previous occasion but I always have trouble with this web site as my replies frequently never appear on the board.  So I will try again.

I have a found quite a number of entries for Sturgis and variations.  There are too many to type out with my one finger and so if you would like to PM me with your e-mail address I will send you the information that I have found as several attachments.
Regards
Jeff

Jeff,

Have send my e-mail address via the personnel message you sent - let me know if you didn't get it.

Thanks,

Julia.

Julia

I have received your PM and will reply shortly with about 72 entries.  I need to edit the eight screen captures first in order to reduce the size, because it is not possible to copy or print direct from the disk.

Hi Jeff,

Thanks so much for writing back!  I am hoping to find info on the Reynolds family of Gumley.  How many parishes are on your disk you mentioned?  Is it pretty comprehensive for Leicester?  Where might I be able get one?

Thanks again,

Danny

Hi Danny

The disk can be obtained from the Leicestershire & Rutland Family History Society.  It does not have every parish in Leicestershire, but it does have a majority of them including Gumley.  The only disadvantage of the disk is that you can not copy and paste from the displayed transcription.

I will have look for Reynolds later and let you know what I find.

Jeff

Hi Danny

I have looked for Reynolds in Gumley and there is only one entry:-
Edward Reynolds, christening 11 December 1747 in Gumley, father Joseph Reynolds, mother Elisabeth.  This is followed by the following notes: Born 5 Nov. Fath. Rec,lincoln.  The date is understandable but I have no idea what the other notes mean.

There are many more Reynolds in other Leicestershire Parishes.

The parishes to be found on the disk are as follows:
