A free to search and low cost view of records on https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk
There are seven James Shands born in the County 1826 – 1830, only two in Aberdeen, none with the full name posted.

This tree on familysearch might help
https://www.familysearch.org/tree/pedigree/landscape/K8D1-SD8
https://www.familysearch.org/tree/pedigree/landscape/L78B-SB7
If this tree is correct, the James Shand, b 14 Dec 1828, did not emigrate to Canada. Must be the wrong one. Not James Forbes Leith Shand.

His son's marriage 1875, Toronto. Mother's name, Elsie

The origin of the 'Forbes Leith' middle names may have come from Col. James John Forbes Leith or his brother, George, but not sure how it links with Shand.

I did try to link James Shand b14 Dec 1828 in Methlick, Scotland to the one in Montreal.
"Trying to find out what happened to James Shand b14 Dec 1828 in Methlick, Scotland. James Shand and Margaret Whyte.
I have him in the 1841 census in New Deer, Scotland and the 1851 census in Methlick, Scotland.
After that, he is a ghost.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!"

I have his headstone. Based on the date he died and how old he was (written on the headstone) James Shand b14 Dec 1828 in Methlick, Scotland. Parents James Shand and Margaret Whyte. is the only one I can find that fits. Doesn't explain the Forbes Leith though.

Hi Everyone,
Looking for a JFL Shand born aprox 1828 in Aberdeen. Died 10Jun 1856. Here is the link to his headstone.

I believe I have his son born 1855 in Montreal named James Forbes Leith Shand. I am DNA related to a person who has his son in their tree.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
