Title: Medway Towns Football question
Post by: Winterbloom21 on Sunday 04 October 20 14:52 BST (UK)
I have a photograph of my father taken with his football team in 1934/5.    I would love to be able to find out the name of the team but have had no luck so far.

The captain of the team is holding a ball with the following written on it:  G.I.F.C. 1934/5.

My father lived in Gillingham and worked at Chatham Dockyard.      I have googled Gillingham Invicta, Gillingham Institute etc. but have come up with nothing.     Would any expert on the Medway Towns have any clue as to what the name of this amateur team could have been?

I had a look at the Kent Football League, but no clubs matched the initials G.I.

Here's a list of historic Kent Leagues http://www.rsssf.com/tablese/engkenthist.html unfortunately the tables are missing for the years you are interested in. It seems in the late 1920s the Gillingham 2nd eleven were in the league, designated as Gillingham II, but that is about the closest I can see to G.I.F.C.
